A Girl Named Sam
Congratulations, Tiger and Elin, on the birth of your daughter, Sam Alexis Woods. I bet that when Tiger looks back on the past week, coming in second at the Open won't be such a big deal. That being said, you know he will be focused on winning at Carnoustie next month (and hopefully here in DC in 2 weeks). As for the name, Sam not Samantha is a little different but it certainly ain't a Boy Named Sue.

Maybe she's named after Sam Snead?
Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards named their first daughter Sam as well. I just don't get it. Why not give the feminine version of the name and then just call her Sam? It gives the kid more options as she grows up.
Also, I generally dislike how many male names are converted into female names lately (Sam doesn't really qualify here, as it has been a nickname for Samantha forever). It seems that there are far more good female names out there than male names, as as parents use masculine names for their daughters it eventually feminizes them, taking them out of the pool of acceptable male names.
Yeah, I have obviously put some thought into this.
