It Just Keeps Getting Sadder
SPOILER ALERTS. Last night, the tragedy of Christopher Moltisanti just became even more real. After the tender moment between Christopher and Tony (where it became apparent that Christopher, much more than AJ, is his son), one realized just how sad it was. Christopher aspires to be Tony--a mob boss, a nice home ("stately Wayne manor"), a wife, and a family. While he may get all of these things, what has Tony done for him--as last night showed us once again, Tony enables his addictions (albeit with some great wine) and whacked the woman he loved. Quite a bond between the two of them. And now he's back on the horse. Not good.
Meanwhile the older generation continues to find out the world has changed. From Jamba Juice last week to Paulie getting squeezed by the new priest, it's hard to be a mobster these days. And then Paulie's travails at the festival (leading to Tony's classic, "You're doin' a heckuva job there, Brownie") to his biopsy. At least he seems to have finally reconciled with his Ma. A small thing.
While not a ton of plot movement last night, an interesting character study of the young and the old and their respective tragedies. Looks like we're heading back to NH next week where Vito's secret pasts are finally going to catch up with him.
