Amazing Bunching

Red and I were complaining yesterday about how boring it was to make our picks for the Amazing Pool since the teams seemed to have settled into an awfully boring rut over the last few episodes. The Amazing Producers fixed that right quick in this week's episode with not one, not two, but THREE bunches at the very beginning of this leg of the Race. Now I'm not normally a fan of the bunching, but in this case it resulted in mixing up what had gotten to be a too predictable order to such an extent that I won't complain. Their meddling has no doubt put me out of the running in the Amaxing Pool (Hippies in FIFTH??), but the resulting suspense was worth it. Yay for bunching!

For the first time ever, I watched part of an episode of TAR, catching the final 15 minutes. I have to say I was quite amused and think I would enjoy being a contestant. (I'm also sure that Red Fraggle enjoyed the locale of the episode.) Two questions: (1) did the couple that was eliminated ever engage in physical violence during their run on the show and (2) where can I get that kermit hat.

I had the same picks as Holt, and I agree that this was not our week.

I found myself really rooting for the hippies and distraught that they might be going home. This was tempered somewhat by the fact that I was sure that this was a non-elimination leg.

What is up with everyone calling each other "baby" all of the time? Can we branch out into other terms of endearment, please? I like "dude" myself, but there's a whole english language full of them. Although, I have to admit, "baby" is much better than "bitch."

Speaking of which, they are no Jonathan and Victora, but I hope Lake and Michelle engage in a little self-examination when they see this show. I just don't get how she puts up with that behavior. She showed some backbone at times, but by the end she seemed so beaten down. (Not literally, Isaac.)

Finally, I must comment on the product placement. I know that all reality shows do it, but for some reason on this show I find it so off-putting. Maybe because it doesn't naturally fit into the show (unlike the Apprentice or Project Runway, for example), so it seems gratuitous, or maybe because I hold the show (and Phil!) to higher standards. On the other hand, this must be one of the most expensive reality shows to produce, so maybe I should cut them some slack. But boy, it's a good thing all the teams were able to crack that code. If only we'd had their talent in WWII!

Apropos of nothing related to TAR, I just want to say how much I enjoy reading your blog on an almost-daily basis. Inspired this morning to check out your links, I found myself staring at a fabulous Magnum PI costume in a mere three clicks. I'm just sad that Halloween is still six months away. Keep up the good work!

Yay! We have a fan!

So I finally watched the Race, and it was so great! I was worried that the Hippies would get eliminated, and thought to myself that they would be truly deserving of a non-elimination leg. Of course, they were safe. What I wonder is when Lake and Michelle screwed up so badly. Were the Hippies wrong when they said they lost two hours driving around? I didn't notice any clear mistake from Lake and Michelle that would have them coming in so much later than the other teams.

I thought it was funny that the Race producers tried to add to the suspense of who would be eliminated by making it appeaer that Lake and Michelle might arrive before the Hippies' penalty was up. Didn't they think we would all remember that Lake and Michelle made the SAME EXACT MISTAKE and therefore would also be docked 15 minutes?! We were SO happy to see Lake and Michelle go.

I loved that the Race was in Greece this year--first time ever. I also loved the Olympic challenge. As a former high school discus and javelin thrower, I would have totally been able to do that challenge. I was surprised by the difficulty everyone seemed to have with the javelin--I would think it was easier than the discus (especially with the floppy way all of the discs were thrown).

And now for our Amazing Pool scores:
Bailey: 4 points this week, 72 total
Diane: 4 points this week, 66 total
Red: 8 points this week (woo hoo!), 62 total
Laura H.: 4 points this week, 53 total
Laura I.W.: 2 points this week, 50 total
