Death of a Giant

R.W. "Johnny" Apple passed away today at the age of 71. He was one of my heroes. Not only was he the NY Times bureau chief in cities around the world (including DC) and the possessor of top notch political insight, but he was also a lover of food, drink, culture, and travel. His collection of travel recommendations of 40 major US and Canadian cities is an invaluable tool for knowing what not to miss in one's travels. The Times article reporting his death is here.
